Evaluating Your Model Trains

Basically, there are three major factors to consider when attempting to value your model trains. The first, and most obvious, is rarity. Many people tend to look at a train’s production numbers as the key factor in determining rarity, however this is not the only measure. Although a train may be considered rare if few were produced, rarity is also governed by the rules of supply and demand. Just because a train may have been produced by the thousands, instead of the hundreds, does not necessarily mean it can’t be rare. As long as demand outpaces supply for a particular model train, that train will be hard to find on the open market, keeping its value high.
The second factor is condition. This is where things tend to get a little tricky, and an objective view is most important. Although there are many terms used to describe a model train’s condition, they are often misleading and inaccurate. To help clarify the situation, the TCA (Train Collector’s Association) has defined a scale of “Condition/Grading Standards” which is universally accepted when determining the condition of model trains. The scale is as follows:
Mint / Brand New: All original, unused and unblemished.
Factory New / Brand New: The model is all original, unused, may show factory rubs and the slightest evidence of handling, shipping and having been test run at the factory.
Like New: Complete all original with no rust or missing parts. May show age, and may have been run.
Excellent: All original with minute scratches and paint nicks, no rust and no missing parts, no distortion of component parts.
Very Good: Minor scratches, paint nicks, and spots of surface rust. Free of dents. May have minor parts replaced.
Good: Sign of play wear with scratches and minor paint loss, small dents and minor surface rust. May show evidence of heavy use.
Fair: Scratched, moderate paint loss, dented, missing parts, surface rust. May show evidence of heavy use.
Poor: Requires major body repair, heavily scratched, major rust, and missing parts.
Restoration Required
Junk: Parts value only
The third major factor is popularity. This is often a two edged sword in that the more popular a model train is, the more of them will be available for sale. Too much supply can affectively lower the train’s value if demand does not keep pace. On the other hand, history has shown that popularity is in some cases just as important as rarity on the open market. This can be illustrated by looking at one of the most popular trains Lionel ever produced, the Santa Fe Super Chief. Even though thousands were originally sold, making them far from rare, the train continues to be a huge hit with the public. Prime examples of these trains are highly regarded, and easy to sell for a decent dollar.
Taking these three factors into account, it becomes possible to get a fairly close estimate as to the value of your model train. Naturally, model trains that are rare, in top condition, and favored by fellow collectors, will demand the greatest prices on the open market. Conversely, those trains that are easy to come by, in poor condition, and not very well received by fellow collectors, will bring the lowest prices. Let’s face it, no matter how hard you try the best you are going to be able to get is an estimate of the model train’s value. To accurately determine a model train’s value one must put it up for sale. The price that fellow train collectors are willing to pay will yield the only true measure of value.

Model Cars, Your Old Hobby - All Grown Up

Though hardly inexpensive (starting at around $2000), for an enthusiast with cash to spare and too little time, it's a great way to acquire a model car so stunning you could park it in your living room.
On the other hand, many people would rather build a model themselves, regardless of how long it takes or how much work is involved. For them there's nothing finer than a Pocher kit, which was the starting point for the model cars you're seeing here.
"Building Pocher models is one of the most challenging and satisfying projects I have ever attempted. You don't need much space and it really is not an expensive hobby. The initial cost of the kit might be high but it takes so long to build one of these kits that the cost per hour is quite reasonable and, at the end, you have a very beautiful model indeed. As well, you don't need all kinds of modelling experience to build one of these things. I don't think I built more than four or five models of any sort in my life before I started my first Pocher in 1999."
Aside from these large-scale cars The Modellers Workshop also offers pre-built 1:24 models, some in diorama format enclosed in acrylic cases. If you're a museum-goer you'll know the term "diorama," which in essence refers to a three-dimensional construction such as the Nativity scenes that decorate many Christmas displays. Model railway fans will certainly be familiar with them. Personally I love dioramas because I like to see cars in a real world environment, especially one that no longer exists.

Hot Air Balloons, Near and Far

Is there any sight more beautiful and awe inspiring, than a sky filled with a rainbow of hot air balloons? Regardless of your taste in adventure travel or your budget, feast your eyes on this wonderful spectacle, either from the ground or on board a balloon.
Below I have listed four different ballooning events for every adventure travel budget.
Just suppose you are the type who would like a budget adventure vacation that would give you lifelong bragging rights over all your friends.
Let us further suppose you have a taste for fine campaign and the gentle sway of a hot air balloon taking you above some of the most breathtakingly beautiful sites in Europe.
The annual Kentucky Derby Festival in Louisville, Kentucky is made up of over 70 events in the two weeks leading up to the famous horserace. One of these exciting events a piece of adventure travel you will never forget called, the Great Hot Air Balloon Race.
The competition format is a “hare and hounds” style, which consists of the event’s sponsor taking off first in the “Hare Balloon,” which in fact is shaped like a giant pink rabbit.
The winds determine the direction of the race as the other balloons take off in pursuit of the hare. The Hare balloon flies on until it finds an open field to land. The passengers then get out and place a large fabric target in the field.
The chase balloons then try to throw a small bag of Kentucky Bluegrass seed as close to the target’s “X” without landing. The pilot of the most accurate toss can collect a prize of $3000.
The Great Hot Air Balloon Race has become so popular that Louisville has become home to many hot air balloonists, as reflected by the fact that now one can frequently see hot air balloons in the Kentucky sky at all times of the year.
The night before the race is the U.S. Bank Derby Festival glow, which draws crowds as large as the race itself. While remaining on the ground, the balloons inflate in their launch positions.
Against the night sky, these hundreds of balloons light up and glow, displaying an assortment of colors as diverse as summer fireworks.
The Winter Alpine Balloon Festival: Imagine the balloon you are in rises steadily into the cold January air, surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Swiss Alps. As you drift over the resort town of Chateau d’ Pex, you and more than 80 other balloons and their passengers are treated to the awesome splendor of the valley below. This is surely the adventure vacation you have always dreamed of.
The Festival is hosted by Buddy Bombard and is one of the few such balloon festivals you can enjoy from the air. Not only can you be one of the passengers as your balloon gently drifts over the silent scenery below, you are also served an in-flight luncheon, which Bombards describes as “casual, but lavish, served with the finest French wine.”
No article on balloon festivals would be complete without mention of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta held each October. For 9 days, the New Mexico sky is filled with a collage of colors and balloons of every shape and size.
The Fiesta has been called “the most photographed event in the world,” and for good reason. The photos shot here appear on magazine covers the world over for months to come.

The Early Muscle Cars.

The idea of installing a powerful engine in a post WWII mid-size car was introduced in 1957. The American Motors (AMC) Rebel showcased AMC’s new 327 in³ V8 255 hp with a 4 barrel carburetor (fuel injection was to be optional), thus making it the first American factory hot-rod hardtop sedan. The Rambler Rebel came with a manual or automatic transmission, and dual exhaust. The Rebel was promoted as the fastest four-door car in America from 0-60 mph and ran the quarter mile in 17.0 seconds. It was one of the quickest production automobiles at that time.
The popularity of the muscle car grew in the 1960s. Among these was the Pontiac Tempest. For 1964 and 1965, the GTO was an option package that included Pontiac's 389 in³ (6.5 L) V8 engine, floor-shifted transmission with Hurst shift linkage, and special trim. In 1966, the Pontiac GTO was no longer an option, and became its own model. The project, spearheaded by Pontiac division president John De Lorean, was technically a violation of General Motors policy limiting its smaller cars to 330 in³ (5.4 L) displacement, but it proved far more popular than expected, and inspired a host of imitations, both at GM and its competitors.
This marked a general trend towards factory performance, which reflected the importance of the youth market. A key appeal of the muscle cars was that they offered the burgeoning American car culture an array of relatively affordable vehicles with strong street performance that could also be used for racing. The affordability aspect was quickly compromised by increases in size, optional equipment, and plushness, forcing the addition of more and more powerful engines just to keep pace with performance. A backlash against this cost and weight growth led in 1967 and 1968 to a secondary trend of "budget muscle" in the form of the Plymouth Road Runner, Dodge Super Bee, and other stripped, lower-cost variants.
Although the sales of true muscle cars were relatively modest by total Detroit standards, they had considerable value in publicity and bragging rights, serving to bring young buyers into showrooms. Automakers saw these as halo models and some, such as the AMC Rebel Machine, were factory upgraded to be turn-key drag racers. The 1970 Machine even came with flamboyant and patriotic red, white, and blue reflective body graphics for maximum street and racetrack visibility. The fierce competition led to an escalation in power that peaked in 1970, with some models offering as much as 450 hp (and others likely producing as much actual power, whatever their rating).
The Dodge Charger, known for its appearance as the villan's vehicle in the movie Bullitt. Another related type of car is the car-based pickup. Examples of these are the Ford Ranchero, GMC Sprint, GMC Caballero, and one of the most famous examples, the Chevrolet El Camino.

Chrome For Your Car

Did you ever wonder why some vehicles have the natural ability to stand out from the rest of the pack? Did you ever wonder how these cars differ from the rest? Did you ever wonder why vehicles on car shows are very attractive even if you have stared on it for several hours? And with all the wondering and awe, did you ever realize that there is one car part, or we can say car accessory that completes the overall package of any vehicle.
In a car show or car show competition for instance, you can notice that almost every vehicle particularly those that are designed for exterior category have one thing in common: they all look totally beautiful. There are vehicles that are coated with special paints to project a more stunning look. There are even some that are painted with exotic images. There are those that are dressed with body kits. There are those that are installed with lift kits or lowering kits. But among all these extra fabrications and extra accessories, one accessory is almost indispensable: the chrome rims.
First, you have to know that chrome rims and aluminum wheels are two different things. Aluminum wheel are usually made from finished metal with dull silver finish. There are also aluminum wheels with shiny black finish. But this is very rare. Aluminum wheels eliminate the need for wheel covers and hubcaps since they can stand alone on the vehicle without the incompleteness of the looks. They are more expensive than the wheel covers and hubcaps but cheaper than chrome rims.
Chrome rims on the other hand come with shiny wheels finish and are used by most car owner because it provide a different effect to the vehicle. Chrome rims make vehicle sharper, more expensive, and look faster.
Chrome rims are set of wheels that have become very popular to those who want to add spark to their vehicle. Since old factory wheels tend to look boring and lifeless, the addition of chrome rims makes the vehicle look livelier. And if getting noticed is all you wanted, chrome rims will definitely do the job.
Chrome wheels could be acquired in two ways. You can request your car dealer to trade the existing factory wheels with new set of chrome wheels since most new cars are released with aluminum wheels. And, you can also buy chrome wheels as an added option from aftermarket manufacturer.
The good thing about chrome rims is, you can get chrome rims for every type of vehicle. You can now replace your existing wheels whether you own a car, truck, pickup, SUV, or a van.
Some OEM manufacturers have set of chrome wheels designed for a particular vehicle make of a vehicle model. There are also those that are made generic for general fit. Sizes also vary. Chrome rims could be 15” and 16” or 17” and 18” for larger vehicles such as SUVs and pickups.

What is Hand Arm Vibration?

Power tools are some of the most useful devices ever invented, but by their nature of concentrating and directing force you need to be prepared for the extra juice.
What is Hand Arm Vibration?
Hand Arm Vibration is the effect of long term or extreme vibration exposure from power tool use. It can result in the following medical conditions.
vibration white finger carpal tunnel syndrome permanent and painful tingling and numbness in the hands and arms damage to bones in the hands and arms painful joints and muscle weakening
Not too nice is it? It is estimated that hundreds of thousands have advanced vibration white finger.
Minimizing HAV
More modern tools are designed to reduce vibration. Some tools isolate the human contact zone from the vibrating parts - which is excellent. So in purchasing power tools for yourself or your employees consider this very strongly, not just to be a nice fellow but as far has health and safety go it is a sound investment.
International codes have been implemented that require revealing the vibration level of a tool. The units of vibration are in meters/second/second. Try to avoid using tools above 2.5
Regular maintenance and tuning of tools will keep them operation at recommended level, and always give appropriate training in using the tool and using the right power tool for the job.
Power tools are great and used safely they are even better.

Fly Old Glory!

You want to know what days to fly your American flag, don’t you?
Well, maybe not if you fly it every day. Every morning I take our flag out to the front yard, attach it to our flagpole and runs it up.
You may want to know the special days for flying the flag in case someone asks you. You will be a font of knowledge. Here are some patriotic days to fly Old Glory:
New Years Day: to start the year right.
Third Monday in January: to honor Martin Luther King
January 20: because it is Inauguration Day.
February 12: To honor Abraham Lincoln.
Third Monday in February: to honor George Washington.
Easter Sunday: to honor the Easter Bunny.
Second Sunday in May: to honor your dear mother.
May 15: fly your flag at half-staff to honor police officers killed in the line of duty.
Third Saturday in May: to honor the armed forces. It's Armed Forces Day.
Last Monday in May: fly your flag at half-staff until noon to honor our war dead, and then run it all the way up. It's Memorial Day.
June 14: this is Flag Day.
Third Sunday in June: to honor your father.
July 4: to honor our country on Independence Day.
July 27: to honor me and other Korean war vets.
First Monday in September: because it’s Labor Day.
September 11: fly your flag at half-mast because it is Patriot Day. (Anyone know what this means?)
September 17: to honor the Constitution.
Last Sunday in September: to honor Gold Star mothers who have lost their sons or daughters in war.
Second Monday in October: because it is Columbus Day.
October 27: it’s Navy Day.
First Tuesday in November: because it’s Election Day.
November 11: because it is Veteran’s Day.
Fourth Thursday in November: it’s Thanksgiving Day.
December 7: to honor Pearl Harbor Day.
December 25: to honor Santa Clause.
Now you know why we fly Old Glory everyday. It’s a lot easier than trying to remember all of these dates.
You can leave your flag up all night too if you shine a light on it at night. Then you never have to take it down unless it is not a storm flag and you want to keep it dry.
Fly Old Glory!

Obsessed with Space

Ever wondered if there is life outside the earth? Do aliens or extra-terrestrial beings really exist? How do stars look like at close distance? What would it be like to live in Mars and stroll on the moon?
Why not study astronomy to answer these questions? I'm sure most of you out there have dreamed of becoming an astronauts or astronomer one day. Having been raised in the generation of "Star Wars," and "Star Trek," many people of my age, and yours as well, have sure wondered at least once in their lives on the ways of exploring the universe. The dream of conquering the vast, unknown realm started with simple star gazing and wildlife night camping -- wishing on each falling star our eyes would catch. The wonders of the world -- at least, outside our world -- are great sources of much fascination and dreaming.
Come primary and secondary school, we were all the more exposed to the mystery of the universe. We treated our Science subjects with much interest and liking mostly because of discussions on the solar system and what lies beyond it. Slowly, we were introduced to the magical world of astronomy.
Astronomy mainly deals with planets, stars, comets, systems, and galaxies. It is also the study of phenomena happening outside the Earth's atmosphere, outside of the world we know. It is also regarded by others as an attempt to fully discover and fathom the formation, definitive evolution, and development of the universe. This science is one of the oldest known disciplines to have called as science. The ancient Greeks were the first one who dared study and discover the realm outside our world. They devised and practiced their own scientific methodology and observation techniques to unravel the entities beyond the sky we see here on earth. Through time, ambitious and daredevil amateur astronomers have greatly contributed to the many important astronomical discoveries that, in turn, have served as foundations of what astronomy is nowadays.
In its childhood years, astronomy was limited only to observing and predicting the activities of the outside world through the naked eyes. Aristotle's cosmic explanation was the first to somehow shed the light on the mysteries of the universe. His proposition that the earth is the center of the universe and all others are moving around it was the first to be accepted as true and valid. For hundreds of years, millions have subscribed to this theory and most of the further studies undertaken were hinged on it. It was not until the *Renaissance period* that a more sound explanation became available. Nicolaus Copernicus came up with the heliocentric model of the solar system. His proposition argued that the sun, and not the earth as claimed by Aristotle, is the center of the universe. Albeit his proposition generated much opposition, he was staunchly defended by Galileo Galilei and Johannes Kepler. Galileo even added the innovation of using telescopes to enhance his observations. Kepler, on the other hand, was the first to devise a system, which described correctly the details of the motion of the planets with the Sun at the center.
These are just some of the basic knowledge we learned about astronomy. For some circumstances beyond control, our quest to further study the universe took a halt when we entered college and focused on our respective fields of interests. But it is never too late to rekindle an old passion. Once an astronomy enthusiast, always an astronomy enthusiast. I, for one, had some sort of reunion with my childhood fascination about the world outside our world. I was actually surprised to find out for myself that there are many ideas and concepts on astronomy that I still don't understand that well. Without second thought, I browsed through the internet and did some self-studying. I even came across to an online college course on astronomy.

Ceiling fans are one on the best inventions man has ever made!

Ceiling fans first originated in hot, tropical countries with somewhat poor economies. While more wealthy countries have removed ceiling fans with the advent of air conditioning, the ceiling fan of yesteryear is making an important comeback. This is no doubt due to the continuing escalating cost of utilities and the expense of maintaining a full house air conditioning system. People are finally understanding that comfort doesn't need to mean cold and in the process they're able to save significantly on the monthly electric bills. How much savings of course depends on local utility cost and the amount of time an air conditioning system is in operation. Typically though, a 2-3 dollar per DAY savings is not unreasonable if a household can use ceiling fans a major part of the day instead of running the air conditioning system.
Although ceiling fans were in widespread use in the early 1900's, they gave way to the air conditioning systems of today. A ceiling fan however is much more than an air movement machine. They're beautiful and can be ordered to perfectly fit into any decor or room of your home. Ceiling fans have a central motor with three to five blades attached. this unit is then mounted to the ceiling. Depending on the height of the ceiling, the unit can be close mounted, with the motor almost touching the ceiling or on a matching decorator bar to allow the unit to hang down into the room a little more if the ceiling height is greater than the typical 8 feet. The motor drives the blades of the ceiling fans which move the air around. Air movement naturally cools people and makes them comfortable without resorting to the brute force of removing moisture and cooling through a compressor air conditioning unit.
Many people wrongly assume that a ceiling fan is only good in the summer. Actually most fans built today have a reverse switch installed. This allows the fan to either pull air from the floor area or push air from the ceiling. So in summer, you would want air movement from low to high but in winter, with hot air rising, you would naturally want the warmer air at the ceiling to be pushed down to warm the whole room. Ceiling fans also are a great to use anywhere there's people or living spaces including bedrooms, living and family rooms and even out on the backyard patio or deck.
So in the end, a ceiling fan can be a great way to add a nice decorating touch to your home while saving big dollars on that monthly electric bill. It's not unusual to save the price of the ceiling fan in the first month, just on the electric bill alone. With your home more open, natural ventilation will make it more pleasant and enjoyable both inside and out.

Black and White Photo Printing in the Digital Age

There will always be room for the special quality and elegance of black and white digital photography images, especially when combining it with the many benefits offered by digital photography in general.
In digital photography and imaging there are many features and techniques available for image control and management. Whereas these are mostly aimed at color aspects, many of the techniques can be applied to black and white digital photography.
Most of the effects you can create in the traditional darkroom can be imitated with imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop. If black and white photography is your area of expertise, you need to discover the wonderful world of black and white digital photography.
As digital cameras generally only take pictures in color, the most basic element of the digital darkroom you will need to master, is how and when to turn your digital color images into exactly the black and white digital photography image you want.
In Adobe Photoshop you can follow three basic routes to this conversion.
In black and white digital photography, the first and most straightforward way is to do a simple conversion to grayscale, the computer term for black and white. This tells the software to throw out all color information, leaving your picture only with shades of gray.
The snag in this method is that it can leave your image looking relatively flat, depending on the original colors. Adjusting contrast afterwards can cause the loss of quite a bit of detail.
Another way of getting that color out of the picture, is to separate the colors of the original in such a way that you end up with a separate lightness or luminosity channel, which can be used as a grayscale image. This method of implementing black and white digital photography should give better results than a simple grayscale conversion.
A better way than both the above black and white digital photography techniques for getting that grayscale image, is to use Photoshop's channel mixer. You will in effect retain a RGB (color) image but convert all the channels to monochrome, and then adjust them separately and in combination.
This is just some of the many techniques and procedures you can explore in the world of black and white digital photography...
If you are just starting out, some useful tips to keep in mind while getting comfortable with black and white digital photography are:
The Canon 20D lets you view color in black and white for RAW mode, giving you a good idea of what images will look like.
In black and white digital photography you should be careful not to overexpose highlights. You want to capture as much data as you can, without the highlights falling off either side of the histogram.
Don't convert to grayscale too soon. Masking, layer blending, etc. is easier with a color file than with a monochrome file.
Photoshop's Channel Mixer gives the best control over the tones of your image.
To achieve more tonal richness in your printed image, print the black and white digital photography image in RGB format, otherwise only the black ink will be involved.
After all is said and done, you will do well to keep in mind that there are more similarities than differences between the basic elements of black and white digital photography, and those of the film world.
As a black and white photographer, you still have to understand how to read the qualities of light and color in the scene in front of you, to be able to predict how they will translate into the final black and white digital photography image!

Wrist Watch History

The watch has made many transformations through the years. There have been many modifications and technological advancements that have made it possible to wear them on your wrist and tell the time with a push of a button! Unlike the watches made many centuries ago, the watches of today offer cutting edge technology and modern day convenience features. The watch is steeped in history and has seen us through World Wars and Nuclear Warfare. At the end of time, there’s no doubt that we’ll use a watch to make note of the date/time!
After the railroad began using the pocket watch, the watch industry grew by leaps and bounds! With the invention of the wristwatch, watches became increasingly popular among professionals and everyday folk. The LED digital watch and the Pilot’s watch have taken the watch designs and functions to a whole new level. To date, there are many watchmakers vying for your business! Your best bet is to hop online and view the many different styles, models and prices before you purchase another watch.
The pocket watch is the oldest form of watch in production. In the beginning, they were completely customized pieces of jewelry that were mainly owned by royalty or the rich. Encrusted with jewels and made of the finest quality materials, the early pocket watches were not easily affordable. Eventually made into smaller versions and worn around the neck, the pocket watch was still mostly considered a fashion accessory. That was until the development of the railroad. Using the pocket watch as a means to schedule train departures and arrivals, the pocket watch became a time telling necessity. Unfortunately, though, the early pocket watch models did not accurately tell time; they “lost” time as the day progressed, making it impossible to synchronize times among a group of people. Following a train collision, it was deemed that the pocket watch needed to undergo a technological improvement to tell time more accurately.
The revised technology made it possible to begin making the pocket watch smaller and smaller, until it eventually began to be worn on the wrist. The wristwatch began to see a dramatic burst of production during wartimes. The military saw a use for a watch that could be easily read while performing duties. The chronograph wristwatches with luminous hands were in high demand! Today, there are a multitude of watch manufacturers that specialize in wristwatch production. There are watches sporting beautiful jewels and watches that are mostly geared toward function. Some are battery operated, while others operate from the power of the sun! There are watches that will fit into any price range, too. Shopping online will allow you to view and compare many wristwatches so that you can pick the one that is most perfect for your wants and needs!
The LED Digital wrist watch came about in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. These watches were very unique in that they require no moving parts to tell the time of day! Passing an electrical charge through inorganic materials creates the LED digital technology. In other words, you simply press a button and the watch lights up with the dime/date! The Americans and the Japanese have been the forerunners in the
development of the LED digital watch. Early models were expensive, but are inexpensive to date. They are the best watches to learn how to tell time by!
The Aviation Watch (Pilot Watch) is a very functional timepiece.. These watches actually help to maintain flight plans, perform pre-flight planning and navigate flights, so they are extremely important for pilots! Used primarily by the military and aircrew, the Aviation style watches are also popular among avid outdoorsmen and athletes. Today, the aviation world has seen a great improvement in a plane’s instrumentation panel, so the Aviation watch isn’t quite as important, but they are very useful to have just in case you need a back up!
All watches are analog or digital in nature, some are even both! Men, women and children will be able to find a wrist watch that is just perfect for their needs/desires. Shopping on the Internet, you’ll find many merchants that sell watches. There are places to find some really great discounted selections, too! When it comes to watches, there are many factors you should consider before you purchase, including: functions needed, size, style and price. Once you have your choices narrowed down, shopping online is the quickest and most convenient way to go. Whether you are an avid watch collector or you are purchasing a time teaching model, remember that your choices have been made possible thanks to the many talented designers and engineers through the years!

Aviator Sunglasses – Not Just for Pilots

If you're anything like me, you always thought Tom Cruise pioneered aviator sunglasses to the world. In 1986, Top Gun set the stage for a new fashion era. However, the reality of aviator sunglasses debut was very different. In 1936, the U.S. military commissioned Ray Ban to make sunglasses as standard issue for pilots in the Air Force. Pilots needed protection against sun and glare without decreasing visibility. The dark teardrop-shaped lenses do a great job of covering every angle to keep out as much light as possible. Aviators have continued to be popular among military and law enforcement personnel, but in recent years have grown in popularity among all types of wearers.
Who Made Aviators Popular?
Hollywood has started many a fashion craze, and sunglasses are no exception. Aviator sunglasses became extremely popular in the '80s with Top Gun and a slew of law enforcement movies. Recently, even more movies have surfaced starring actors and actresses sporting aviators. Carrie-Anne Moss showed off a pair of black aviators in The Matrix. Johnny Depp played Raoul Duke in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas wearing orange-tinted aviator sunglasses. A more recent example would be Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. They wore “Nitro” glasses by Oliver Peoples, classic aviators with yellow lenses.
What Types of Aviator Sunglasses are Available?
The newest style for aviators is colored lenses. Some of the more common colors seen have been blue, purple, pink, orange and yellow. Bolle, Oakley, Dior, Swiss Army and all other popular brands have their own designs of aviator sunglasses. Aviators are even available as prescription sunglasses.
Classic Aviator Sunglasses
The only true “classic” pair of aviators is the original Ray Ban. However, most other brands that sell aviator sunglasses have based them on the traditional, classic aviators.
Polarized Aviator Sunglasses
Many of the newer pairs of aviators are polarized. Polarized sunglasses block out the majority of horizontal light waves allowing only vertical light waves to pass through untouched.
Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses Reflective sunglasses come with a reflective coating that produces a mirrored look. These aviators often come with a gradient coating that gradually changes from top to bottom. The main disadvantage of mirrored sunglasses is they are easily scratched. Even so, they look really cool!

Travel Trailer Camping Tips

One of the great things about travel trailers and motor homes is that you can take your home with you as you travel instead of staying in a series of hotel rooms. However, you will have to arrange a place to park your RV though and most often that will be in a campground. So these are some RV camping tips that you will need to know to be able to camp successfully as you travel, and here they are:
Probably the smartest investment that you can make for RV travel is to buy one or both of the major campground directories and use them regularly to map out your overnight stays in advance. It's a good idea to make your camping reservations in advance just to be sure that you have a place waiting for you when you arrive, and both Woodall's and the Trailer Life directories have loads of campgrounds listed that you can choose from. Quite a few are not repeated in both books, so it may be very advantageous to have them both if you are on the road quite a bit of the time.
If you aren't already familiar with a particular campground, it can be a wise move to only arrange a one night stay there even if you plan to be in the area for several days. The one night stay will help you decide if this campground is a good fit for you. Many RVers have bought multi-night packages to save money only to find that the campground was not what they had originally thought. So just making a one night reservation lets you become familiar with your camping arrangements and if all is well you can always get a multi-night package afterward. If the accommodations are not up to scratch, then you can just look elsewhere for the second night.
You really should have a membership to the Good Sam Club for many reasons, but one of the big ones is that a membership in their club can get you 10% off on overnight fees at most campgrounds across the country. This essentially means that you would be staying free for every 10th night or so and if you travel a lot that can add up to quite a bit of money.
For those that are over 62 and like to visit our country's national parks, you can get a Golden Age Passport that costs only $10 for processing and will entitle the carrier to free entry to any national park across the country for life. Collectible Knives In Your Pocket

If you're looking for a collectible, pocket knives are great to have. They are very inconspicuous due to the fact that they can be carried around in your pocket or even on a keychain. Most collectible pocket knives are handcrafted to perfection and are a real joy to have. From opening packages to carving your name in a tree, a pocket knife is great to have on hand. Why not make it a collectible while you're at it? Most people are reluctant to actually use their collectible pocket knives for their actual purpose. That is perfectly fine, also.

If you want to keep your knife protected from external factors and still show it off, a small acrylic display case goes a long way. Look into displaying your pocket knives in your office with a small display case. This can leave your fellow co-workers or friends in awe from the craftsmanship of a collectible.

If you're looking to find great collectible pocket knives, start searching around online. Your local knife stores may have nice knives for sale, but they might not have that certain knife that catches your eye. The selection is almost limitless online, and you can usually receive great prices and outstanding customer service.

Ordering these knives is very simple. They can be purchased with a debit or credit card in no time. Having knives shipped has become simpler and even more reliable. Some places even offer overnight shipping for those that are incredibly anxious to get their hands on their new knife. With today's shipping and handling standards, one can almost be guaranteed their collectible knife will arrive in perfect condition. The most negative aspect about buying online is that you don't get to see the actual knife in person. Make sure the dealer offers great high-quality pictures of the knife you are looking at. A picture to scale is also nice, which can help you judge what size the knife actually is. Within no time at all, a great collectible pocket knife will be on your doorstep. If you're interested in purchasing a collectible pocket knife online, start poking around different knife sites to find the best deals available. Also flip through your local phone book to find stores near you that can order knives at an even lower price. Enjoy the hunt for collectible pocket knives online.

The Right Type of LED Flashlight

Though the flashlight is of a very simple design, it is a relatively new invention. It came into being after the incandescent light bulb and the dry cell was invented.
The name “flashlight” has a humorous background. In the early days of the dry cell, the power of a dry cell battery was very limited. To save the dry cell from discharging quickly, the flashlight was operated intermittently and just long enough to check out the environments, hence the name “flashlight”.
There are many flashlight designs available in the market today. Like dry cell flash lights, rechargeable acid type flashlights, rechargeable dry cell type, LED (Light Emitting Diode) type, solar charging type, electromagnet type, head lamp type, underwater type, rifle or gun light etc.
The dry cell flashlight is the simplest design and used in most households and consists of dry cells to power the electric bulb. As the batteries discharge the illumination dims in these flashlights.
Rather than buying a flashlight, which needs battery replacement frequently, a better design is to use rechargeable batteries, which can be lead acid type or dry cell type.
Some use solar panels for recharging during daytime. Electromagnet type uses a clockwork arrangement or a knob arrangement. In clockwork arrangement a spring mechanism is used to power the flashlight and has to be wound as required. The knob type arrangement has a moving coil or magnet which moves when the knob is pressed and charges a capacitor, which provides power to the bulb.
LED type flashlights are of a recent design. Though LED’s have been around for decades, the LED flashlight was not available till late 90s because the LED’s could not be operated continuously and their luminosity was very poor.
LED flashlights consume very little power compared to the conventional electric bulb, as LED’s do not produce as much heat as electric bulb. LED flashlights usually have a metal body to dissipate heat by conduction since LED’s do not dissipate heat through the light beam like electric bulbs do.
A headlamp type has a flashlight on a helmet so that the hands are free. Underwater type is a special flashlight, which is used for illuminating underwater objects and is waterproof. Rifle or gun lights are special flashlights used for illumination of target.
Flashlights are fairly cheap and available in attractive designs. The price ranges from a few dollars to a couple of hundred dollars.
